Green Energy Origin and FluoRok Sign Letter of Intent to Strengthen European Battery Supply Chain

Weinheim, Germany and Oxford, UK — 3rd December 2025: Green Energy Origin (GEO) announced today the signing of a Letter of Intent (LOI) with FluoRok Ltd (“FluoRok”), a pioneering innovator in advanced fluorination technologies. The agreement supports the development of a future large-scale production of lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF₆) — a key raw material in lithium-ion battery electrolytes and upstream European battery production.

Under the LOI and at scale, FluoRok will develop a large-scale (kilotonnes-level) supply of LiPF₆ produced using its proprietary fluorination process. Subject to successful qualification, regulatory approvals and commercial terms agreed, GEO aims at integrating these materials into its electrolyte manufacturing operations for European battery producers, strengthening the region’s supply chain for critical energy-transition materials.

“Working with electrolyte producers such as GEO is an exciting milestone for FluoRok as we move closer to commercial deployment of our fluorination technology,” said Dr Gabriele Pupo, CEO & Founder of FluoRok. “By joining forces with one of Europe’s most forward-thinking electrolyte producers, we can accelerate the localisation of LiPF₆ production and support the growth of Europe’s battery manufacturing ecosystem.”

FluoRok’s patented process enables the production of fluorochemicals directly from fluorinated waste or naturally occurring fluorite, bypassing HF as an intermediate and with the potential to reduce CO₂ emissions and improve energy efficiency compared to conventional processes. GEO brings a strong manufacturing footprint, deep customer relationships within the European battery supply chain, and a shared commitment to sustainable and resilient materials production.

“At GEO, we are committed to advancing greener, more secure solutions for the global battery industry,” said Dr. Martin Saewe, President GEO Europe. “FluoRok’s innovative approach to fluorochemical production aligns perfectly with our vision of a localized, sustainable and cost competitive high-performance electrolyte supply chain. Used at scale, this innovative technology can help reduce environmental impact and production cost at the same time. Exactly the kind of innovative approach we need in Europe to be competitive in the field of lithium-ion batteries.”

This collaboration marks a significant step toward a localised European sustainable supply chain for battery materials.

Forward-Looking Statement

This press release may contain forward-looking statements. Actual results may vary depending on various factors.

About FluoRok: FluoRok is a deep-tech start-up company based in Oxford, UK and focused on fluorochemical manufacturing and licensing. It develops novel and transformational technologies to access fluorochemicals in an efficient, safe, lower cost and sustainable way and unlock localised production. Spun-out of the University of Oxford in 2022, FluoRok’s team has decades of cumulative experience in fluorination chemistry, and extensive manufacturing, commercial and business development expertise.

FluoRok’s proprietary technology directly employs fluorinated waste or naturally occurring fluorite mineral as raw material, to access high value fluorochemicals that are key to the world’s energy transition, our global food supply, and our health. Its innovative solution reduces energy requirements, lowers CO2 emissions, enables reshoring of manufacturing due to intrinsic process safety and introduces for the first time the circular economy in fluorochemical production. Traditional barriers to entry such as high capital expenditure, regulatory challenges, and complex controls of hazardous operations, are circumvented, thus allowing for easy adoption and rapid scale-up of the technology.

Its market focus is Li-ion battery electrolyte salts and agrochemicals.

FluoRok is backed by an outstanding investor syndicate including Oxford Science Enterprises, BGF, Green Generation Fund, Volta Energy Technologies, Excellis and the University of Oxford.
